Dr. Liva's educational foundation includes a B.A. in Biology from Boston University and an M.D. from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara, earned in 1978. After completing his Ophthalmology residency in 1983, he pursued advanced fellowship training in Retina-Vitreous Diseases and Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in 1985, further refining his surgical expertise. Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology since 1991, Dr. Liva has also served as Assistant Clinical Professor at UMDNJ, where he contributed to the training and development of future ophthalmologists.
