What is Laser Surgery?

Laser surgery is a type of eye procedure that uses specialized lasers to reshape or repair parts of the eye, enhancing or restoring vision. By using highly focused light, laser surgery can correct refractive errors, remove obstructions, and improve the health of the eye. These procedures are non-invasive and provide highly accurate outcomes, making them a popular choice for those seeking to improve their quality of life through better vision.

Laser surgery is typically performed in an outpatient setting, providing quick recovery times and minimal discomfort. The versatility of laser surgery means it can be used to address a wide range of issues, from refractive errors like nearsightedness to conditions like glaucoma.

Different Types of Laser Surgeries

There are several types of laser surgeries, each designed to address specific eye conditions:

arrow-circle-right-3 arrow-circle-right-3-light LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis)

One of the most well-known laser eye surgeries, LASIK, uses a laser to create a thin flap in the cornea, which is then reshaped to correct vision. LASIK is often used to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

This type of laser is used to treat secondary cataracts, which can develop after cataract surgery. The YaG laser creates an opening in the clouded capsule to restore clear vision.

SLT is used to lower intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma by targeting specific cells in the eye. It is an effective alternative to traditional glaucoma medications.

Similar to SLT, MLT is a treatment for glaucoma that uses a laser to reduce intraocular pressure. The use of micropulse technology allows for a gentler yet effective treatment.
